Executive Summary

 

The ECO2MOVE improved the fuel consumption measured in km/l diesel and km/kg gas by up to 19% and 30% depending on the type of fuel type. The test was conducted in greater Copenhagen, Denmark. Testing of 3 vehicles fitted with the ECO2MOVE and 3 reference vehicles driving the same routes. 

 

 

Introduction

 

This document reports on the impact of ECO2MOVE devices fitted to 2 x Scania P280/P320 CNG Refuse Collection vehicles and 1 x Mercedes Econic 2630 Refuse Collection Vehicle operated by City Renovation A/S. (Figure 1 & 2). The fuel consumption data was supplied by Scania C200 Tracking System and compared to the fuel records for the Scania CNG vehicles and fuel registration records / km driven by the Mercedes Econic Refuse Vehicle.

Methodology

The aim of the testing was to reduce the fuel consumption by minimum 5%. The ECO2MOVE accelerator curve of all vehicles was set to the same setting. Dynamic start up settings at 40% accelerator output, increasing to 70% accelerator output at 30 km/h, and full throttle available from 40 km/h. Further a safety feature in reverse was introduced with a maximum speed limitation of 8 km/h.(next figure). 

 

Results

 

Therefore, excluding the seasonal influence the improvement in fuel consumption was up to 19.52% for the Scania P280/P320 CNG test vehicles compared to the control vehicles, and 30,17% for the Mercedes Econic 2630 test vehicle compared to the control vehicle.

The total fuel figures for the Mercedes Econic 2630 test vehicle is including PTO and idling use. An analysis shows that approximately 18.98% of the total fuel consumption is related to the use of PTO and idling. However, even with these figures included in the total fuel consumption the improvement is very high.

The total accumulated distance for all 3 test vehicles during June 2016 was 6.812 km.

The analysis has determined that there is an impressive improvement in fuel consumption and that the degree of improvement can be sensitive to the operational profile of the vehicle. The results are very encouraging and indicates that the ECO2MOVE can make a major contribution to improving fuel consumption and reducing the environmental footprint of a vehicle.
